IEPA 16 - Save the Date, 20 - 23 September 2027

Dear colleagues and friends,

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to IEPA16 — and to invite you to join us in Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand.

The theme of this year's conference — Early Intervention and Prevention through Many Eyes — reflects something we hold as a genuine conviction: that progress in our field is shaped by many different kinds of knowledge and experience.

Scientific and clinical advances, the perspectives of people with lived and living experience, and the wisdom of practitioners working across different cultural and service contexts all have a place here. We are building a program that brings these together in ways that we hope will inform, challenge, and connect.

Auckland offers a particular opportunity to engage with the leadership and knowledge emerging from Aotearoa New Zealand, including approaches to care grounded in Māori and Pacific worldviews — perspectives that will enrich our conversations in ways that only this setting can offer.

We are very much looking forward to sharing more about the program, speakers, and everything Auckland has to offer in the months ahead. In the meantime, we warmly encourage you to register and secure your place.

look forward to welcoming you to Auckland,

Philippe Conus, President

Kate Hardy, President Elect

Nau mai, haere mai ki Tāmaki Makaurau ki Aotearoa!

On behalf of the IEPA16 Local Organising Committee and the wider Aotearoa New Zealand mental health community, we extend a very warm welcome — nau mai, haere mai — to all delegates attending IEPA16 in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.

Situated on the edge of the Pacific, Aotearoa New Zealand offers a unique setting shaped by our bicultural foundations and diverse communities. We hope you take this opportunity to build connections, foster collaborations, and experience the richness of our culture while you are here. Aotearoa has embraced the principles of early intervention and prevention in mental health for 30 years, working in partnership with clinicians, researchers, communities, and people with lived experience. Together, we continue to develop innovative, evidence-informed, and person-centred approaches that reflect our values, including whanaungatanga (connection), aroha (compassion and kindness), and manaakitanga (care and hospitality).

Nā tō rourou, nā taku rourou, ka ora ai te iwi — With your food basket and my food basket, the people will thrive.”

IEPA16 provides a valuable space to bring a global focus to early intervention and prevention in mental health. It is an

opportunity to explore the conference theme, Ko te Tirohanga Whānui – Early Intervention and Prevention Through Many Eyes, and to deepen our understanding of the diverse perspectives that shape this field. Together, we will reflect on current challenges, share emerging knowledge, and consider how best to translate this into meaningful action for the future.

Our IEPA16 event will be hosted in our brand new conference venue situated near the sparkling Waitematā Harbour and amongst all that the lively Auckland hospitality scene has to offer. While you are here we encourage you to explore Aotearoa New Zealand’s renown natural landscapes, taste for adventure and enjoy our world-famous hospitality.

We hope you have a rewarding and enjoyable time at IEPA16 in Auckland, and that you leave feeling inspired, connected, and energised in your work.

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou. With warm regards
